We are a global coalition of Muslims, former Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, atheists, academics, and activists united by a shared commitment to peace, democracy, liberty, human dignity, freedom of conscience, and secular governance.
We are deeply concerned by the growing influence of Islamism—a political ideology that, in varying forms, seeks to subordinate individual rights, democratic institutions, and civil society to an Islamist conception of religion and law. We reject this political project while affirming the equal dignity of Muslims and people of every faith and none. Our coalition is uniquely led by co-directors Yasmine Mohammed, a former Muslim, and Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a practicing Muslim—a partnership reflecting the diversity of Muslim experience and the broad coalition needed to confront these movements.
We embrace democratic values grounded in reason, open inquiry, and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We defend freedom of expression, freedom of and from religion, freedom of conscience, and equality before the law—including the right to believe, to change one’s beliefs, to reject religion, and to criticize any religion, ideology, or government without fear of violence, coercion, or legal punishment. We reject apostasy and blasphemy laws, jihadism and terrorism, the instrumentalization of da’wah for Islamist political power, and the institutionalization of sharia where it conflicts with democratic law and equal citizenship.
Our commitment extends beyond Islamism. We stand unequivocally against antisemitism in all its forms and from any political milieu—far right, far left, or Islamist—including anti-Zionism when it denies Jews the self-determination afforded other peoples or holds Israel to standards applied to no other nation. Criticism of any government is legitimate; hatred and dehumanization of Jews are not.
We also oppose anti-democratic movements regardless of origin, including the growing convergence of Islamist and far-left activism sometimes called the Red-Green Axis. Our principles are not selective: we oppose extremism from the far left, far right, Islamist movements, ethno-nationalists, and religious authoritarians alike. No group is exempt from scrutiny because of its identity or claimed moral purpose.
A free society requires the courage to defend liberty consistently—even against people on our own side. We invite all who share these principles to join us.
Human rights campaigner Yasmine Mohammed advocates for the rights of women living within Muslim majority countries, as well as those who struggle under religious fundamentalism in general.
Yasmine is co-founder and co-director of the CLARITy Coalition. She is the author of bestselling book “Unveiled: How Western Liberals Empower Radical Islam.” She is also the host of the Yasmine Mohammed Podcast, where she has conversations with freethinkers, exMuslims, cult survivors, whistleblowers, and dissidents from the Middle East and beyond.

M. Zuhdi Jasser, M.D., is the son of Syrian immigrants who fled Ba’athist oppression in 1966. Dr. Jasser is a physician, former U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander, and President and founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (AIFD). He is a co-founder of the Muslim Reform Movement (MRM) and a former Vice-Chair of U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) appointed by the U.S. Senate from 2012-2016.
Zuhdi is an internationally recognized expert on Islamism (political Islam). He is widely published in the field, featured in many top-tier media, and regularly testifies to the U.S. Congress on the Islamist global threat and our domestic and foreign strategy.
