Charlie Weimers

Member of the European Parliament

Charlie Weimers is a Swedish politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2019. From an early age, Weimers developed a keen interest in politics, leading him to become actively involved in a youth political association. In 2002, he was elected to the Hammarö Municipal Council, a position he held until 2006.

After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Karlstad University in 2007, Weimers continued to build his political career. He has served as a political expert and advisor, and also as the Chief of Staff for former MEP Lars Adaktusson.

Throughout his political journey, Weimers has been a vocal advocate against religious persecution. He has particularly shown strong support for the Iranian people amid the ongoing conflicts in Iran, a stance that led to his personal sanctioning by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the European Parliament, Weimers serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and is a member of the Delegation to Iraq. He is also a substitute member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs, as well as the Delegation to the United States. Since 2022, he has held the position of Vice Chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group.

Weimers’ advocacy has not been without its challenges. His strong support for the Iranian people led to his being personally sanctioned by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Despite this, he continues to be an active voice in the European Parliament, championing causes he believes in.
